Teen Witch
Teen Wolf came out in 1985 as a fun, relatively harmless comedy film, but it mostly catered to boys. Why not have a version that approached the other market? But we obviously can't have a teen girl running around as a beastly werewolf. So let's make her a Cute Witch, instead!
"Sooo... THIS happened!!! AHHHH!! #Louise #Polly #Bradtheredhotlover #Randa and #Richie! The cast of #Teenwitch REUNITE for the DVD commentary! It was pure #MAGIC!! #nevergonnabethesameagain #yourmorningpapah Can't #topthat," she captioned the picture. "Love u guys! We did this for all of YOU!! Woohoo!! #BestdayEVERRRRR."
The elder Lively is best known for her role in that 1989 teen movie, where Robyn eventually lands the "it" guy in high school. The movie ends with a dramatic dance between Lively and her co-star, where she throws her magical necklace to a family member, essentially giving her magic away.
On April 28, 1989, Teen Witch, a low-budget supernatural romantic comedy, opened in theaters opposite heavy hitters from Kevin Costner (Field of Dreams) and Stephen King (Pet Sematary). The film revolved around social outcast Louise Miller (Robyn Lively), who discovers on her 16th birthday that she hails from a long line of witches. Under the guidance of her mentor, Madame Serena (Zelda Rubenstein), Louise uses her newfound powers to become the most popular girl in school, and land B.M.O.C. Brad Powell (Dan Gauthier).
The teen comic fantasy drama Teen Witch premiered 33 years ago. The film, which flopped at the box office, picked up rave years after its release to become a cult classic- "Who would ever really wanna go and top that?" With its combination of spells, rap music, and comedy, Teen Witch is one of the intriguing '80s Movies You Need To Watch At Least Once.
The teen-themed movie was centered around a nerdy teenage girl as she navigates around fulfilling her heart desires after she receives mystical powers on her 16th birthday. The film was a bizarre perfection brought to life by predominantly unknown actors. Here is what the cast of Teen Witch is doing over three decades after they appeared in the 1989 movie.
Robyn won many hearts with her portrayal of Louise Miller, the teenage schoolgirl who used her powers to achieve her heart's desires. Coming from a family of actors, including being Blake Lively's older sister, means that the screen has always been Robyn's playground, so after starring in the 1989 comedy-drama, Robyn simply continued in her craft.
Rubinstein bodied the role of Madame Serena, the mysterious seer who opened Louise Miller to the world of witchcraft. After starring in the comic fantasy film, the lab technician turned actress continued to express her talents in acting well into the early aughts.
Like her supporting role as Shawn in Teen Witch, Tina starred in a couple of teenage-themed dramas in the '80s before leaving to pursue her passion in dance. Years after she quit acting, Tina made giant strides in dancing, including launching her activewear merch and appearing in music videos by music artists.
Since its release in 1989, the cast of Teen Witch might have scattered off in the Hollywood winds, but the film has remained a cult classic for all people who love teen movies, magic and suburban- white-guy-rap.
Louise is not very popular at her highschool. Then she learns that she's descended from the witches of Salem and has inherited their powers. At first she uses them to get back at the girls and teachers who teased her and to win the heart of the handsome footballer's captain. But soon she has doubts if it's right to 'cheat' her way to popularity.
teen witch is a nonstop cheese fest thats bursting with so ugly that it lowkey works 80s fashion. it was both exactly what I expected and surprising. we got the cliche dork to popular girl story arc yes but we also got a scene where a bunch of white kids rap at each other for no reason so I was like hm!
Teen Witch! What a sneaky little weirdo you are! That cover art is super misleading! Looking like some family friendly PG Bewitched knockoff...think again! Within it's lighthearted exterior lies a magical beast of 80s bewilderment. Opening with a bizarre neon dream sequence we are instantly pulled into it's trance like grasp
There's another review out there, buried where I can't find it, that describes this film as a paean to Reagnistic individualism and dissects every inconsistency, inexplicability, and outright weirdness that exists here. I wish I knew where it was, because it's the review this film deserves. But it also takes a harsher tone than I'd like to take with it, because I can't fathom even the most vacant teenager would take the lessons of this monstrosity to heart. That open uselessness makes the wonders of this film easier to swallow; there's no harm in this film. It's too stupid to hurt anyone.
So Teen Witch is about a teenager that is a witch. She has a little brother who is most likely on sex predator watch lists, as well as a best friend who is timid around funky people. There is one point where she goes on a date with a guy who reminded me of Rick the Prick from Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, and the guy acts just like one would assume Rick the Prick would on a date. Then there is a bunch of magic stuff, lessons are learned, and there is a weird scene in which Zelda Rubinstein sits on Robyn Lively's lap. In summation, pretty decent.
The movie starred Lively as Louise Miller, the titular teenage spellcaster who uses a little bit of magic to turn herself into the school's "most popular girl." Her mission: to win the affection of Brad, "the red hot lover."
This is the most realistic experience i have seen about a solitary witch. I feel this in my soul. Never sure if you are doing it right but trying anyway because you feel like it is the right thing. but you still are not sure. 041b061a72
